Wallpaper has made a comeback in recent years, and for good reason: it can add personality and character to any room in your home. However, applying wallpaper can be a daunting task if you’ve never done it before. Here are some wallpaper tips to help make the process go smoothly.

  1. Choose the right wallpaper for your space.

Consider the purpose of the room, the amount of natural light it gets, and the existing decor when selecting a wallpaper. For example, a bold, colorful pattern might work well in a child’s bedroom or playroom, while a subtle, textured wallpaper might be more appropriate in a living room or home office.

  1. Measure your walls carefully.

Before purchasing wallpaper, measure your walls carefully to ensure you have enough wallpaper to cover the entire space. Make sure to add a few extra inches to your measurements to account for trimming and matching the pattern.

  1. Prep your walls before hanging wallpaper.

Clean your walls thoroughly and repair any holes or cracks before hanging wallpaper. You may also want to apply a coat of primer to ensure the wallpaper adheres properly.

  1. Apply wallpaper paste evenly.

Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for applying wallpaper paste. Use a wallpaper brush or roller to apply the paste evenly to the back of the wallpaper. Make sure to smooth out any air bubbles or wrinkles as you go.

  1. Hang wallpaper carefully.

Start at the top of the wall and work your way down. Use a plumb line or level to ensure the wallpaper is straight. Be sure to match the pattern as you hang each strip of wallpaper.

  1. Trim excess wallpaper carefully.

Use a sharp utility knife or scissors to trim excess wallpaper at the ceiling and baseboards. Be careful not to damage the wallpaper as you trim.

  1. Allow wallpaper to dry completely.

Give the wallpaper ample time to dry before moving furniture back into the room or hanging artwork on the walls. This will help ensure the wallpaper adheres properly and looks its best.
